How to unlock Your Vehicle
Modern electronic key fobs offer superior convenience and performance to a traditional manual key. Batteries will eventually wear out and need to be changed. If your Volvo key fob has begun to function intermittently, that's an indication that the battery is failing and will require replacement soon.
There are simple steps that you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery at your own expense. First, locate a clear work surface to perform the procedure. Then, arrange all the tools you require. Find the battery hatch, and open it using a flathead, coin, or a similar tool. Then, carefully remove the battery from its socket by lifting up on the side that is closest to the key-ring loop. Use rubber gloves to shield the clips and electronic contact surfaces.
After the battery has been removed, put the new one into its socket. Make sure that the positive side is facing up and that it is seated within all clips. Slide the cover downwards towards the key-ring portion until it becomes loose and is able to slide off. Then, remove the cover to reveal the mechanical key blade hidden inside. It can be used to unlock your car from the driver's door when you've lost or damaged the key fob.
How to Start volvo keys come with keyfobs that can do more than just unlock and secure the doors. They can also be used for other useful functions like summoning and auto-parking the vehicle. The new Volvo XC60 is capable of remotely starting your engine by using its key fob buttons. How does it work exactly?
Find a clean, flat surface on which you can place the necessary items for this project. Then, lay the fob down on the surface with its Volvo logo facing upward. Then you will need a flathead screwdriver or coin or similar device to turn the battery hatch back to the open position. Avoid touching the electronic contact surfaces using your tools. This could cause the fob to cease working properly.
When the hatch is opened and the battery is in its socket and ensure it is properly seated with the positive (+) side facing up. Once the clips have been locked into place, replace battery cover and then reassemble the fob.
By pressing the unlock button just once the alarm will be removed and the driver's doors will be unlocked. Repeating the process will unlock all doors and the tailgate. The unlock button is also useful for rolling down the windows to let in fresh, cool air in the summer heat. And if you're looking for more options, the key fob can also be used to activate ERS, which will start the vehicle's climate control system and allow it to cool or warm it according to the desired temperature setting when the vehicle is parked.
How to Replace the Battery
If your key fob isn't locking or unlocking your vehicle like it used to and it's possible that it's time to change the battery. It's easy and requires a small screwdriver that is flat or a plastic pry bar tool. First, locate the small slot where the backup / emergency metal ignition key used to reside. Insert the blade of your screwdriver or pry bar tool into this slot and gently pry open the rear of the fob for the key. Once the fob is opened find the CR2032 battery and remove it. Replace the battery in its place and put the fob back together.
Note: Certain older Volvo models have another type of battery which is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 10ths of a millimeter smaller than a CR2032 battery, and you must be extra careful when placing the battery of the replacement.

Volvo's key fobs have advanced in recent years. They're no longer simply a remote for locking and starting your car; they can also open your windows, and give you an extra boost in the event of an emergency. First, you must master using your key fob to maximize its potential.

The key fob you have is equipped with a transponder which has been programmed specifically for your Volvo. When you insert the key fob into the ignition barrel, a transponder chip reads the code and compares it to the one that is stored in the start inhibitor module of your car. If the codes do not coincide, your vehicle will not start. This is a crucial anti-theft measure that prevents your Volvo from being started if a wrong key is used.
You will need to take your key that you lost to a dealership to have it replaced. Your car will also be reprogrammed. This process can take up to 10 days and cost you a considerable amount of money. Fortunately, there is an alternative to cut out some of the costs by programming the system at home. You can find the necessary information in the owner's manual or on the internet. Remove the logo and nonlogo covers and lay your key fob on a clean surface. Locate the grey button on the upper right-hand corner of the fob and press it down. The cover will then be opened to reveal the CR2032 3V power source.
